Charles was a renowned Maori elder who was known as an eloquent speaker of te reo Maori. He will be forever remembered as a teacher and lecturer, and for his role as the iwi liison at the Auckland International Airport. He wa also the cultural adviser to Manukau City. Tragically he died shortly after giving a farewell speech for one of the founding members of Maori Television. Following his speech he returned to the crowd and collapsed and died at the scene. He had been the former GM of Human Resources at the television station. RIP Charles.
