Shane (49) was a former NZ Olympic triathlete and accomplished Aquathlete, achieving 20 podium places and several world title wins at ITU (now World Triathlon). In 2005 he was named in the top 15 triathletes in the world. He lived in New Plymouth with his wife and two children, where he was head coach at the Kiwi West Aquatics swim club, until he lost a short battle with an aggressive brain tumour.
