A car involved in a police pursuit claimed Norm's life. The fleeing motorist ploughed into Norm and his friend Dee's car when they were on their way home from the gym. The couple were marathon runners who went from regular 10km runs in the morning before hitting the gym in the evenings. Both also had gold medals South Island masters aerobics competition. The fleeing motorist was known to police as a disqualified driver.
