Former Governor General of NZ (1985-1990), Sir Paul Reeves (78) lost his battle to cancer only weeks after stepping back from public life which involved politics, education, the Anglican Church and iwi (his whakapapa was Te Atiawa) involvement. Prime Minister John Key said Sir Paul modelled his Governorship on the life of a Bishop: "a Bishop travels, a Bishop stands alongside his people and searches for common ground,". Sir Paul was born in Wellington and is survived by his wife.
