Te Kumeroa (63) died in 1985 but was honoured 37 years later in the 2022 APRA Silver Scroll Awards. She was the latest inductee to the NZ Music Hall of Fame at that time.
She was very influential in promoting Maori language and culture, composing numerous songs. Her most well-known waiata is “Poi E”, which was produced by Dalvanius Prime for Pātea Māori Club. Poi E became "the anthem of a new generation", the generation known as the "hip-hop generation".
