High Commissioner to the Cook Islands, Tia (62), died of a short illness less than a year after his predecessor died in office. He was flown to NZ on a medical evacuation flight but died later in Middlemore Hospital.
Tia joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1973 where he became High Commissioner to Solomon Islands and Fiji, and had previously been posted in Tonga, New Caledonia and France.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
