Rosie (83) was one of NZ's most prolific philanthropists and fundraisers. She was the patron, founding trustee and former chairperson of the Breast Cancer Foundation. Over her life she had raised millions of dollars for a wide range of organisations mostly centered around women and children. Her charities included the Starship Foundation, Gut Cancer Foundation and Rautakauri Music Therapy Trust, but there were many more who benefited from her efforts.
She was awarded Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to philanthropy in 2011. There is no doubt her legacy, particularly in bringing breast cancer into the public forum, has saved thousands of lives. Dame Rosie was married to Michael Horton, of media group Wilson and Horton Ltd.
