Georgina (65) was the world’s first transgender Mayor (Carterton in 1995) and Member of Parliament (Labour 1999-2007).She was a keynote speaker at the first International Conference on LGBT Human Rights in Montreal in 2006 and was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to LGBTIQA+ rights in 2020. She battled liver failure for a decade, even having a transplant in 2017 but sadly died in hospice care in 2023.
She will be forever remembered a champion for LGBT rights and gender identity.
