Peter (83) was an academic who, among many things, was instrumental in the establishment of the first branch of Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) in Ponsonby in 1969. He then worked for the Department of Social Welfare before joining AUT as Professor in social sciences and policy, community, Māori development and numerous humanities subjects.
In 2008 he was awarded a MNZM for services to the community and Maori as he was involved in numerous Māori development projects including the refurbishment of Tautoro Marae (Kaikohe) and, even after his retirement, continuing to supervise social workers.
He is survived by four adult children and their children.
