Ans (86) was an iconic artist and internationally respected photographer. She immigrated from the Netherlands at 21 and was a self taught documentary photographer, capturing what is now regarded as the most significant study of life in NZ over the past six decades.
In 1998 she was awarded the Companion of the Order of New Zealand Merit for services to photography, was an Arts Foundation of New Zealand Icon artist in 2007 and received an honorary doctorate from Massey University in 2015. In 2016 the Westra Museum (Wellington) opened and is where her photography and published memories will live on.
