At 107 years old, Jack, passed away with the tile of NZ's oldest man. Incredibly he was born in a tent in Bulls in 1916 and lived most of his life in the Manawatu, in both Bulls and Marton. During World War II he was stationed in New Caledonian. Asides from spending his last few months in a care facility in Taupo, Jack had continued to live independently up until that time and said his secret to a long life was beer and caramel popcorn. He is to be buried alongside his wife Thora in Marton.
