Ben (22) was cycling home after cooking his sister's birthday dinner when he was involved in a collision with a car. The incident happened after 11pm on a Saturday night in the Wellington suburb of Karori. He liked the outdoors and enjoyed spearfishing, snorkelling, tramping, camping and was a keen cyclist who had never owned a car. However, he had mentioned safety concerns for cyclists on the roads before. He was due to start a new job at a bank the following week.
