  • Thank you for creating this obituary for him.

Dr. Dominic Joseph Gerard Bell was my Teacher Aid, Paula's brother-in-law. He was born on July 25th 1965 in Kaikoura, New Zealand and he was 45 when he died in the earthquake that hit Christchurch and he would have celebrated his 46th birthday on July 25th 2011. Two of his three sons would later become doctors in his memory because he was a Doctor when he died and the other son would later become a pilot. He would have been 56 today if he had survived this terrible earthquake.

  • 4 Years

It has been four years since the disastrous day. As we look back, we remember you and the 184 other victims of the earthquake that shook the city, country, and world. You were and still are deeply missed by your family, friends, and all others that you knew. Remember that everyone you know is doing well. Rest in peace Dominic.

  • A great Doctor. Husband, Father and friend

I remember Dr Dominic very vividly just as others have mention already, an incredibly friendly and passionate man about his life and work as a Doctor. This is one patient that will not forget what was done for me in my time of need by Doctor Dominic Bell. Also, not to mention the others of his calibre that resided at that very special place known to us as 'The Clinic'.

To borrow some similar words I wrote about Dr Sinclair.
'The Clinic' was an outstanding Medical Centre which was made up of outstanding individuals. From the friendly receptionists like Dian Falconer to the dedicated Doctors like Dominic Bell it was a warming and yet professional atmoshpere that greeted and took care of you.

I write this with a heart of thanksgiving in having known Dr Dominic and my heart felt condolences go out to his wife and family. Though these words cannot bring back a loved one my prayer is that the friends and family will find some balm and solace in them.

    Thankyou and Farewell Dr Dominic.

  • Intelligent Gregarious Guy

At school Dominic Bell was an intelligent gregarious guy. He was in my brother, Brendons, class at Loretto and St Bedes. I would often laugh at the antics he would get up to with his mates.

Well liked and will obviously be missed.

  • What a nice guy

He was my doctor at Picton Street Howick when I was myself a student at Otago back for the holidays. He would reminice about his old uni days down there with me. He was a nice genuine bloke and I'm sure he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

My thoughts are with all those affected from Chch.

  • Will be sadly missed

I was there Friday afternoon (18th Feb), and vividly recall Dr Dominic Bell was talking/reminiscing about about his student days at Otago Medical School when he found the going quite tough and was advised by head of faculty to stick with it. I said to him, isn't it good to reflect on how things have panned out now that you're a successful GP. He was certainly an inspirational positive person.

  • Just A Top Bloke

Dom was a few years ahead of me at Loretto College and at St Bedes where he was my class prefect. He hung around with my best mates brother and we shared a few beers back in those uni days. He was always friendly, always smiling, never stressed. I still tell people of the story of him turning up to an 8.00am lecture in Dunedin in his sleeping gown and weet bix in hand among a few other storys. I know his lifelong mates from St Bedes in particular will all be devastated. I am thinking of you all. RIP Dom. Simply just a top bloke.
