Ron (86) had been a professional rugby administrator since the early 1970's, serving on the NZRFU from 1971-1979 and 1980-1986, and in 1976 became the manager of the All Black team for two years. He was also a staunch and vocal supporter of the infamous 1981 Springbok tour of New Zealand and was involved in organising the first Rugby World Cup in 1987. He was awarded life membership of the NZRFU in 1999. More recently he held a position at the NZRFU Appeal Council.
