Portia (14) tragically died in Starship Hospital after being rescued from Karekare beach. It was the day before school was to return after the coronavirus lockdown when she and three other teenagers got caught in a rip at the West Auckland beach. The others survived the ordeal.
Portia had two siblings, one an identical twin, was artistic and also a member of the Glen Eden Intermediate School mixed touch team, winning the MVP accolade in the 2018 Turbo Touch competition. RIP Portia.
