Joan (110) was NZ’s oldest woman, born in 1912. She was volunteering at an op shop weekly at the age of 105 and lived independently until 107. At 109 she survived a hip operation and learnt to walk again afterwards.
Her secret to a long and largely healthy life was to eat healthy foods and avoid conventional pills and tablets. “I have grown various weeds in my garden for years that I eat to keep well", she said. Joan discovered natural therapies in her 50’s, but she may have also had a little genetic help as her own mother lived to 95.
