Jeanette (75) was the country's first ever elected Green MP (1999). She was instrumental in getting the NZ Green Party up and running in the 1990's and held senior leadership roles in it and the Alliance party. Alongside co-leader Rod Donald, she helped change public perception that the party was a group of "sandal-wearing tree huggers". Her efforts were further recognised in 2010 when she was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Sadly she died suddenly from a stroke in hospital after a fall on her farm. She is survived by her husband. RIP Jeanette.
