Jon (62) was a brilliant actor, television comedian and writer. He most well known for his role in the long-running political satire comedy series 'McPhail and Gadsby'. He was born in England and, when the family migrated to NZ, he went to school in Invercargill and later studied law at the University of Otago. He worked for Radio Dunedin prior to his television career which began with starring in the comedy 'A Week of it' with David McPhail. He made appearances in many tv programmes and several films, wrote over 20 books, and many articles for national publications, including the Christchurch magazine 'Avenues' which he had been editor of. Sadly he died of cancer.
