Dr Farry (65) QSM was a GP in Queenstown for over 30 years. Well regarded as forward thinking he pioneered the country's first immersion programme in 2007 for medical students to encourage them to work in rural areas. He also opened New Zealand's second medical centre in Queenstown in 1976.
He was a director of Otago University's Te Waipounamu Rural Health Unit and a distinguished fellow of the College of General Practitioners.
Dr Farry died unexpectedly in Twizel while working as a locum doctor there.
