Sir Bob (86) Elliott was one of New Zealand's greatest medical minds who invented the heel prick test which would identify cystic fibrosis in new-born babies. The early treatment that followed mitigated lung damage and increased the life expectancy of people with the disease enormously, impacting millions worldwide. He was also the founder of CureKids, the largest funder of child health research outside of Government, more recently he also generously gave $100,000 of his own money to a teenager to purchase a drug to save her life. His research into A2 milk compounds also led to the establishment of the A2 Milk Corporation.
He received may accolades and recognition throughout his lifetime with the last being a promotion to Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, also for services to medical research, in the 2020 Queen's Birthday Honours. RIP Bob.
