Wiremu (80) was a leader, father, grandfather, a mentor who instilled a legacy of mana motuhake, not only in his own uri, but in his entire iwi. He mentored thousands of young Ngāpuhi and was known for his strong involvement in waka and tikanga Māori. He was a central figure around the Mid North, was involved in Waitangi Day waka displays and pōwhiri at the Treaty Grounds. Wiremu held strong beliefs, will be sorely missed by young and old alike. RIP Wiremu
