Experienced Blenheim aviator, Mike (55), died while attempting a long-distance cross-country flight in his glider. He planned a return flight from Blenheim to Lake Coleridge in central Canterbury, a trip estimated to take about 12 hours, but it is thought he may have crashed soon after being released from his tow plane. He is survived by his wife and three children.
