Twenty-nine miners died in the second blast of the Pike River Coal Mine disaster on the West Coast on the 24th November 2010. The first blast, possibly due to toxic gas build up, was five days earlier and had caused rescue efforts to be delayed. The gas and heat levels measured after the second blast showed fatal levels that no one could survive.

  • Such a tragic loss you all have encountered, may you all find strength in knowing that ur loved ones are in the comfort of heaven watching over you all, guiding you all and catching your tears, the words u can no longer bear to speak for your loved ones will now be silently spoken by your tears. May u all find comfort in the memories u shared and knowing that you now carry a piece of heaven in your heart, every breathtaking moment is your own personal glimpse of heaven. And on days laced with fear may you know they are with you in spirit ever step of the way, they will help you walk on, they will carry when u feel u can't take another step. Grief is as individual as a finger print so compare urswlf to no other & allow yourself to kick scream and cry if that's what u need! Know that not only a nation, but the world is mourning with you and praying for your strength to conquer ur grief and to Kno that ur never alone, our darkest hour comes before the light, so know there is light ahead. As a mother, sister& daughter i cant even imagine the fear and sorrow your hearts are encountering and i only wish i could save you all from this pain.My very deepest of sympathies to each and every one of you affected by this horrific incident!
