Blake, a fit young airma, collapsed and died soon after a training session at the Ohakea Air Force Base. He was an Aircraftman who had graduated from basic training the year before and was working as a air security specialist in the military police, who protect air force assets.
He tragically died only four months short of his 21st birthday.
