A Kaiapoi business's employees work treat trip turned to tragedy when Ian (39) fell down a bank into the water at Maruia falls. The group were on their way to watch a World Cup Rugby game in Nelson, stopping for a barbeque at the falls, when the tragedy occured. Ian fell into the pool below and couldn't fight the turbulance which held him under. Originally from England, he was an adventure-sport lover enjoying heli-skiing, white water sports and mountain-biking and had lived in New Zealand for four years. He is survived by two young children.
