Gloria (66) was swept away in flood waters after getting out of her vehicle on the Arahura Valley Rd north of Hokitika. The swift flowing surface fooding on the road was a result of the Arahura River rising. Record rainfall had hammered the West Coast that night with Cropp Waterfall recording1086mm of rain in 48 hours - the highest level for that time period on record. A state of emergnecy had been placed in Westland.
