  • 4 Years

It has been four years since the disastrous day. As we look back, we remember you and the 184 other victims of the earthquake that shook the city, country, and world. You were and still are deeply missed by your family, friends, and all others that you knew. Remember that everyone you know is doing well. Rest in peace Ross.

  • Much missed member of the BikeRIGHT cycling community

Six months on Ross, you're still very much missed by all at BikeRIGHT. With fondness, BikeRIGHT remembers Ross as a favourite customer; an inspirational veteran; a cycling personality full of fantastic stories over a lifetime of cycling especially from the early days; bike and componentry weight obsessed :); and Scott always remembers Ross talking about working with Scott's grandfather. We miss you Ross.

  • Bushie

"take 2"Sympathies to all family.Ron,I know you will be really hurting as you two were like two peas in a pod.Bushie always the outgoing, flamboyant, smiling person and you Ron were always close beside but so quiet and reserved compared to big Bro(I think he was older)but Bushie liked to keep his age a secret.I used to look in awe at the big V8 when U 2 came to Southland.
When Bushie and I 1st represented NZ in 1973 he was the oldest to EVER ride for NZ but in later yrs,Miller,Stockwell,Fowler all rode for NZ at 37yr BUT Bushie was 1st and the Pioneer.Only Comm Games,Olympics,2 man to New Caledonia were only NZ reps then.
Years later there was Oceania Games,World Cup etc etc.
So Bushie as we cyclists know him was a true legend in NZ cycling.
I am 99% sure that "Bushie" the legend still holds the North Cape to Bluff solo record.
On that ride the late Wayne Thorpe was one of his handlers?and I bet Ron would not have been far away(remember what I said earlier "like 2 peas in a pod)Well Bushie also broke the Dunedin to Invercargill record AND guess who broke Bushies record in1976(and I was only 16 or 26?).Yours truly BUT I only rode from Dunno to Invo and Bushie had been riding about 20hrs when he hit Dunno.Actually I think 1 of his sisters or 1 of his many gorgeous daughters that he would always talk about but never bring to the races to meet his YOUNG cycling mate,Hughesy, phoned some Southland official and said my record was a "soft effort"as I only rode Dunno-Invo.

  • To Sue and family, We are so so saddened to hear about Ross, Dad was the first one to tell me. Dad said he saw Ross only a few weeks before this terrible day we still can't believe he is gone. He was a true friend to Dad always and I will always truly cherish that thought. We are thinking of your beautiful family with all our thoughts and love.

  • Sad to hear you have gone Ross

To all the Bush family I offer you my regret's that Ross is no longer with us.I first met Ross in 1969 when he returned with his brother Ron from Canada. They were both good friends of John Swanson whom I was living with. We have kept in touch over all of these years and I had the upmost respect for him. Sue i'm sure this will hit you and your family hard.It is hard to put in words how you feel when something like this happens. All I can say is I'm sorry this has happened and I truly wish the family well. Kind Regards Joe Stoop. Now (TAYLOR).
