Talented young athlete Jayda (14) had ambitions of being the next Dame Valerie Adams having already represented New Zealand at a high level when just 12 years old, Her sports were shotput, javelin and discus and she was a talented basketball player, having played basketball in Las Vegas in July 2017 for the NZ Basketball under 14 team. In March 2018 she also set new junior girls records at the East Coast Secondary School sports championships. In December 2017 she also competed for NZ at the Adelaide Children's Atheltics. Jayda was the youngest of four children, lived in Wairoa and attended Hastings Girls High School. She died unexpectedly at her home of a suspected medical event.
