Dick (70) was a NZ running legend passed way after a five year battle with cancer. Dick won a silver medal in the 5000m race at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, after winning a silver medal in the 1970 Commonwealth Games. He was born in Holland and came to NZ in 1950 with his parents settling in South Canterbury and later Hamilton. He was attending Hamilton Boys High School when he became serious about running and his natural abilities were honed by the Arthur Lydiard training principles. He will be remembered as one of New Zealand's finest athletes who ran exciting races.
