Publisher, author and journalist Christine (88) was not only the owner and editor of The Picton Paper but also the founder of Cole Catley Publishing. She was also a tutor at the inaugral 1996 Picton and Sounds Summer School at Queen Charlotte College and is creditted with nurturing many up and coming NZ writers. In the 1960's she ran the first NZ fulltime journalism course, insisting that half the students were female.She also established the Indonesian office of ABC and had been the Radio New Zealand International social affairs commentator. Under the nondeplume Sam Cree, she was also The Dominion Post's first TV critic and was the co-founder of the NZ Parents Centre. In 2006 she was awarded a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
