Isobel (aka Brem) QSM was promoted from night duty sister to manager of the Lakes District Hospital, Queenstown and recieved the Queens Service Medal (QSM) in 1989. She was a member of the planning committee for the new hospital and a life long member of St Johns. Due to health reforms in 1992, she was forced into early retirement but remained active, working as a home care cancer nurse and as a volunteer for Citizens Advice. As one lady put it, Brem served her community with unstinting love, expertise and dedication.
