Reta tragically died following the devastating Christchurch Earthquake. She was a resident of the Windermere Rest Home and suffered head injuries and a broken hip after being thrown to the ground when the 6.4 quake hit the city,

She raised eight daughters and one son, had 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
