Matthew tragically died in the devastating Christchurch Earthquake. He owned a well-known tattoo parlour and was only metres from safety when the facade of his tattoo parlour collapsed on him when the 6.4 quake hit the city.

    • Our cherished son

Matti was our only son and had just turned 25 when he was taken from us. He was an inspirational positive gentle loving son.so many have said to us that once you meet Matt he becomes everyone's best friend. I wish I could have said goodbye to him, so many things I would want to say but now it is too late.they say time heals, I happen to know that it does not. We learn to live with it but along with family and friends, we think of Matt every single minute of every day. We cry a lot and are surrounded by his beautiful memories but I would give anything in the world to have him back. We love you so much Matt. Mum xxxx

    • RIP Mathew

Even though I have not seen you in years Mathew my heart is heavy to hear that you have gone. Our thoughts are with your Mum, Dad and Sarah at this time. You were such a lovely quiet little boy who went on to follow your dreams. RIP young Mathew Arohanui Harry Whanau xx
