Radio DJ "Blackie" (69) is most famously remembered for his morning show at Radio Hauraki. and his on-air pranks in his "inspired lunacy" shows. He started his 30 year radio career in 1976, after a five year in the British Merchant Navy, when he worked for Radio Caroline - the world's first pirate station - and later the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, before taking the job at Hauraki. He retired in 2009. He will be forever remembered as fun-loving and engaging with an "interesting and mischievous" voice.
