A roadside stop for a picnic turned to tragedy for Shelagh (69) when an out of control vehicle driven by an intoxicated man smashed into the car where Shelagh had been sitting in the drivers seat with the door open. She was thown 10 metres on impact, dying in Palmerston North hospital later that night. The accident happened after her and a friend had spent the morning enjoying the 2010 Te Horo Bayleys Country Garden tour.
