Austen (95) (OBE) was a well-known Canterbury artist and descendant of the Deans Family, a founding Canterbury family. His paintings of landscapes were mostly painted from his Peel Forest home where he had lived for much of his life. He is also remembered for his love of climbing, he was a keen mountaineer and had scaled many major peaks throughout the country. He died following a stroke.
